DG eCall Meeting on 17 November 2005, at ERTICO premises, Brussels The eSafety Forum’s eCall Driving Group (DG) meeting on 17 November 2005 in Brussels experienced a high turnout with more than 40 participants. At the beginning of the meeting, Juhani Jaaskelainen from the European Commission presented the status and progress of eCall since the last DG eCall meeting on 7 July. Mr Jaaskelainen mentioned the High-Level Meeting with Member States representatives in October and the signing of the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) by Greece, Italy, Lithuania and Slovenia.
Emilio Davila-Gonzalez, also from the European Commission, reported on a meeting with the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), which is working on developing a standard for transport protocol to be used when sending both voice and the eCall “Minimum Set of Data” (MSD) from the vehicle in the accident to the Public Service Answering point (PSAP). After the presentations of the Commission, many relevant presentations were given on eCall related topics: PSAP requirements, Performance criteria, Viewpoint of vehicle manufacturers, High-level requirements for the IVS, Cost/benefit for the insurance industry and the Certification of eCall.
The next DG eCall meeting has been planned for the first week of April 2006, while the eCall experts meet again on 2 December 2005 in Olten (Switzerland).
In the mean time, the different DG eCall stakeholders are asked to comment on the position papers of the various industry groups for the MSD.
