eSafety Challenge 2010, Millbrook 13 July

eSafety Challenge annual event 2010 took place on 13th July at Millbrook Proving Ground (UK) and had a special focus on fleets. The event was organised under the eSafety Challenge European Commission funded project and was supported by eSafety Aware and FIA Foundation.

 

The event’s programme envisaged speeches by important eSafety stakeholders’ representatives: Ivan Hodac (ACEA’s Secretary General), David Ward (FIA Foundation Director General), Juhani Jääskeläinen (European Commission, ICT for Transport), Peter Tyroller (CLEPA’s President), Andre Seeck (Euro NCAP’s Chairman), as well as Formula 1 stars Lewis Hamilton and Tom Kristensen.

Live eSafety demonstrations were performed by Lewis Hamilton and Tom Kristensen for several eSafety systems: ESC, warning and emergency braking system, blind spot monitoring, lane support systems and speed alert.

In the afternoon a panel debate on stimulating the demand for safety took place, followed by an open discussion.

 

The results of the 2009 study on "Car users' acceptance of eSafety technologies" were also reported at the event.

iCar Support project was present at this event with the eCall stand, informing the participants about the European eCall technology and the activities of the European eCall Implementation Platform. eCall brochures containing the latest information on eCall - the new eCall facts sheet, citizen summary release, the latest eCall EC communication "eCall: Time for deployment" were available at the stand, as well as the latest list of eCall MoU signatories. The participants could receive technical information on how eCall works and a car equipped with eCall technology was also available at the stand.

The car and the technical guidance at the stand were made available by DENSO and Cinterion Wireless Modules.

The participants could also receive at the stand eCall gadgets, offered by the iCar Support.
