Standardised technical solution supports the deployment of eCall across Europe Creation date: 15 April 2009 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) approved the final specifications of the eCall in-band modem standard, which supports the transmission of eCall’s minimum set of data (MSD).
The MSD, containing vehicle specific and high accuracy location information, is passed, over the voice channel of mobile telephone networks, to the emergency services agency which will use this information to accurately locate the accident and provide more rapid assistance to accident victims.
Moreover, the relevant Technical Committee (TC) of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) activated the work items (WI) on the operating requirements of eCall at its plenary meeting in Prague on 20 March 2009. All relevant standards for the pan-European eCall service are to be finalised by September 2009.
